摘要: Left unilateral neglect is a neurological condition characterized by an impairment in orienting and responding to events occurring on the left side. To gain insight into brain mechanisms of space processing provide theoretical foundations for patient rehabilitation, it important explore attentional bias shown patients light existing models normal orienting. Three experiments tested hypothesis that involves primarily exogenous, or stimulus-based, attention, with relatively preserved endogenous, voluntary, Six right hemisphere damage 18 age-matched participants without performed cued reaction time (RT) task targets which could appear one two lateral boxes. Cues consisted brief brightening contour The target followed cue at 150, 550, 1000 ms stimulus-onset asynchrony (SOA). In experiment 1, cues were not informative about future location target, thus elicited purely exogenous attention. Controls showed slowed RTs locations SOAs > 150 ms, consistent notion inhibition return (IOR). Neglect had no evidence IOR targets; they disproportionate cost preceded (invalid) cues; this was maximal shortest SOA, idea biased neglect. 2, 80% valid (i.e., correctly predicted impending target), inducing initially later shift toward box. again invalidly targets, persisted as if patients' attention been side only exogenously, but also endogenously, rendering more difficult endogenous reorienting left. 3, 20% valid, so best response strategy endogenously orient box opposite one. able take advantage invalid rapidly respond targets. condition, nullify their spatial bias; achieved fastest range However, fast responses occurred while controls redirect uncued already 550 SOA. Altogether, these results suggest spared, slowed,
