摘要: Abstract Purpose Receiving a diagnosis of schizophrenia can be profound life transition that often has negative influence on the patient's sense self. The present study is first to examine how self-defining memories are temporally distributed around age at schizophrenia. Method 25 patients and matched control participants identified 3 from their lives. In addition, were assessed with standardized interviews questionnaires positive symptoms as well tests cognitive function. Results Patients' increased in years leading up declined abruptly immediately following diagnosis. pre-diagnosis increase was not attributable primarily rise disease-related recollections. Conclusion sharp post-diagnosis memory decline suggests find it difficult establish new or evolve existing definitions Implications for models clinical practice discussed.
