摘要: The cosmopolitan genus Euplotes Ehrenberg, 1830 comprises a highly distinguishable group of ciliates. However, details the cell surface, ciliature, and molecular data are still scarce for some species. We studied octocarinatus Carter, 1972 from two Mexican freshwater bodies, providing on its morphology, SSU rRNA gene sequence, phylogeny. In addition, we obtained all previous records to show geographic distribution biogeographical pattern. current populations showed differences as compared with original description provide an improved diagnosis. Morphologically, species is very similar patella E. daidaleos but differs by invariably having eight dorsolateral kineties (vs. nine in daidaleos), lacking endosymbiotic green algae present daidaleos). Phylogenetically, population nested four isolates morphological characterization. described herein grouped into fully-supported clade, which includes patella, amieti, daidaleos, eurystomus, woodruffi aediculatus. Biogeographically, seems have wide distribution.
