摘要: Insect's metabolic rate and patterns of gas-exchange varies according to different factors such as: species, activity, mass, temperature among others. One particular striking pattern in insects is discontinuous cycles, for which many hypotheses regarding their evolution have been stated. This article does not pretend be an extensive review on the subject, rather focus work performed haematophagous bug Rhodnius prolixus, a model organism used from mid XX century until present days, with great influence Wigglesworth his students/collaborator's work. I no doubt that renovated field insect has bright future will advance at large gaits thank help this organism, R. whose entire genome recently being unraveled.
