摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses electrostatic potentials at membrane solution interfaces. Lipids in the membranes of all cells and subcellular organelles are arranged form a bilayer with hydrocarbon tails sequestered away from water polar head groups exposed to aqueous environment. About 10%–20% lipids many bear net negative charge, whereas positively charged extremely rare. The concentration monovalent cations surface will be an order magnitude higher than these ions bulk phase. potential produced by is dependent on salt phase seminal paper. absence proteins, polysaccharides, other macromolecules present biological can considered advantage test how well theory diffuse double layer describes charges lipids. hydrophobic adsorption molecules membranes, molecular dipoles membrane-solution interfaces, boundary located interior membrane, few angstroms interface. Few examples possible significance also described.
