摘要: The NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) aerosol lidar system was one of several instruments that flew aboard a DC-8 during the Airborne Arctic Stratospheric Expedition (AASE). Several Aerosol Measurement II (SAM II) altitude profiles extinction were close enough in time and space to allow for intercomparison with measurements backscatter. Comparisons between three SAM 1.0 μm analogous inferred from nearly simultaneous airborne are discussed. As expected, comparison made homogeneous background conditions excellent, agreement within error bars. other two comparisons show first near-simultaneous II/lidar polar stratospheric cloud (PSC). well edge relatively PSC layer also good, especially using an extinction-to-backscatter model derived situ particle size measurements. near showing considerable spatial temporal variability poor, likely due rapid changes which may occur edge.
