SAGE II aerosol correlative observations: Profile measurements

摘要: Profiles of Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment (SAGE) II aerosol extinction measurements are compared with dustsonde- lidar-derived profiles during five correlative experiments between November 1984 July 1986. Six-channel dustsonde particle concentration used to construct a size distribution, then converted using Mie theory. The two-wavelength lidar backscatter data extinction, model values constrained by the standard two-channel ratio. A set wavelength-dependent refractive indices is calculated in conversion both extinction. 30, 1984, intercomparison period provided near-ideal conditions for SAGE validation. six-channel aircraft system were nearly coincident measurement. All four at 1.02 μm agree very well from tropopause 28 km. Selected altitudes also all wavelengths: 1.02, 0.525, 0.453, 0.385 μm. remaining intercomparisons vary quality, but they good, considering time space gradients other problems involved.
