摘要: 1. Action potentials were recorded from single afferent units of the superior laryngeal nerves in neonatal and adult sheep, cats monkeys when liquids passed over mucosa. 2. Two types mucosal receptors, sensitive to water but not isotonic saline, found each species birth. The most common type unit responded after a short latency (less than 1 sec), discharged maximally first 1-3 sec became inactive stimulus was withdrawn. other only several seconds, discharges gradually increasing frequency continuing removal stimulus. 3. Reproducible responses elicited by tactile stimulation mucosa receptive field long-latency units. Fewer 50% short-latency excited, remainder responding unreproducibly firm pressure. 4. Short-latency, long-latency, milks, gastric contents, saliva solutions sugars. 5. often modified by, rarely dependent on, reflexly evoked activity muscles. 6. conduction velocities fibres ranged 22 49 m/sec, differed little those water-insensitive mechanoreceptors. 7. Histological examination showed that taste buds present lambs birth whereas they developed post-natally kittens monkeys. evidence suggests associated with water-sensitive
