Chemical conversion coatings for structural adhesive bonding of plain carbon steels

摘要: Abstract A range of chemical conversion coatings has been considered as an alternative to degreasing, grit-blasting or silane application for the pretreatment plain carbon steels prior adhesive bonding. Initial single lap shear (SLS) joint strengths were used select best-performing pretreatments. Those selected then in terms their durability performance with unstressed SLS joints immersed water at 60°C and measuring residual a function immersion time. The changes introduced surface studied using analytical techniques. process was two-stage treatment, Bonderite 901–Pyrene 8-90, which provided micro-rough texture highly complex but relatively stable oxide. These desirable characteristics thought responsible observed adhesion performance.
