Nitrous oxide emission from some English and Welsh rivers and estuaries

摘要: Nutrient and N2O concentrations in the water columns were measured seasonally over a full salinity range nutrified rivers Colne, Stour, Orwell, Deben, Trent, Ouse Humber their estuaries on east coast of England between August 2001 May 2002, oligotrophic Conwy, Dovey Mawddach North West Wales 2002 2003. English much higher than those Welsh rivers. % saturation significantly correlated with nitrate, nitrite ammonium water. The strongest correlation was (r2 = 0.56, p < 0.01), suggesting that most significant factor among different nutrients regulating concentration estuaries. supersaturated throughout year annual averages from 186.9 to 992.9%, indicating these sources atmospheric N2O, whereas lower 113.6 137.4% saturation. Although estuarine area Colne almost same as emission (937498 mol N yr−1) Conwy (23020 yr−1). On coast, riverine emissions only 0.5–12.5% total Thus negligible, but contributors UK inventory.
