摘要: Abstract X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) has been used to investigate the effect of natural aging on polypropylene (PP). The analysis showed a marked degradation surface, which is mainly caused by contamination superficial structure oxygen. This study was conducted with aid three samples PP: first new, second aged under ambient atmosphere and protected from light, third exposed both light. Spectral shows that oxygen predominant element contamination. process induces chemical modification creating double bonds bonding more than one atom causing polymer chain break. presence light through time seems favour bonding. According spectra obtained at different angles, this type spreads remains homogeneous depth few monolayers (8 nm). comparison literature allowed us propose reaction mechanism for oxidation.
