摘要: ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Boesenbergia rotunda (L.) Mansf. has been used for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders including peptic ulcer. AIM OF THE STUDY: The current study aimed to investiagte anti-ulcer activities methanolic extract Boesenbergia (MEBR) and its main active compound, pinostrobin on ethanol-induced ulcer in rats. We also investigated possible involvement lipid peroxidation, nitric oxide, cyclooxygenases free radical scavenging mechanisms. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Pinostrobin was isolated form rhizomes rotunda. Ulcer index, gastric juice acidity, mucus content, gross histological lesions thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARSs) were evaluated vivo. The effect into lipopolysaccharide/interferon-γ stimulated rodent cells, COX-1 COX-2 done vitro. RESULTS: Pre-treatment with MEBR, or omeprazole protected mucosa as seen by reduction area mucosal reduced absence submucosal edema leucocytes infiltration. Pinostrobin significantly (P<0.05) lowered elevated TBARS level gasteric homogenate. did not produced significant vitro inhibition NO from LPS/IFN-γ activated cells without affecting viability these cells. Further, compound revealed inhibitory effects both -2 enzymes. antioxidant assays exhibited non significance vitro. CONCLUSION: Thus it can be concluded that MEBR possesses activity, which could attributed indirect anti-oxidant mechanism but intervention oxide COX inflammation pathways.
