摘要: Aims: To determine the effect of maternal haemoglobin levels at booking visit on pregnancy outcome. Methods: A prospective study was carried out two Medical Officer Health areas in a district Sri Lanka, including817 pregnant mothers who were followed up until delivery. Maternal level measured according tospecified standard protocols. The reliability and accuracy measurements assessed werefound to be satisfactory. Pregnancy outcome defined terms miscarriage, morbidities, preterm birth(PTB), low birth weight (LBW) small for gestational age (SGA) infants. Potential confounding factors eachpregnancy also assessed. Multiple logistic regression applied results expressed as oddsratios (OR) 95% confidence intervals (95% CI).Results: prevalence anaemia (Hb 13.9 g⁄dL had significantadverse association with morbidities (OR 3.0; CI 1.03–8.90) LBW 3.95; 1.30–12.0)compared reference range. Conclusions: Although during not adversely associated any outcomes, Hblevel >13.9 LBW.Key words : anaemia, eclampsia, haemoglobin, weight, preterm.
