Carcinoid tumor metastases: Prospective study of twenty-two patients☆☆☆

摘要: Abstract Twenty-two patients with advanced metastatic carcinoid disease, most of whom were moribund, subjected to oral administration 200 mg 5-fluorotryptophan three times daily. Seven died from complications the tumor before completing course one year's treatment. Of fifteen who survived long enough complete year therapy, average additional survival time was 2.3 years, varying over nine years. The after diagnosis disease made and prior initiation treatment in these 5.5 eight Side effects analog limited gastric upset patient only. control serotonin production its associated symptoms considered excellent. Slowly progressive growth led ultimately death thirteen which due mechanical factors not hormone abnormalities. Two continue survive good quality life six respectively, therapy. Life has been extended excellent by simple tryptophan analog, 5-fluorotryptophan. Tumor does seem have affected analog.
