摘要: Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death in men. While prostate specific antigen (PSA) currently best biomarker available, its use has many limitations. This study investigates biosynthesis, secretion and activation PSA. PSA secreted as a pro enzyme containing seven amino acid peptide (APLILSR). Because APLILSR removed extracellularly vivo, hypothesis was tested that it may be detected blood or urine. Our data indicates filtered from bloodstream by kidney, detectable urine patients with cancer, but not controls. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) fatal interstitial lung disease unknown etiology. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are family proteinases regulate extracellular matrix turnover believed to contribute IPF. For this reason, levels MMP peptides will increase IPF tested. To test these hypotheses, mice were collected an ELISA used quantify peptides. These experiments show MMP-2, MMP-7, MMP-8 MMP-9 increased compared control mice. The also showed human healthy suggest detection feasible correlates disease. urinary indicative proteinase new accurate measurement relevant clinically arises, such measurements aid diagnosis serve marker for following progression.
