摘要: A rapidly increasing use of building materials poses threats to resources and the environment. Using novel, localized life cycle inventories material intensity data, this study quantifies resource in mainland China evaluates their embodied environmental impacts. Newly built floor area related consumption grew 11% per annum from 2000 2015, leveling off at end period. Concrete, sand, gravel, brick, cement were main used. Spatially, construction activities expanded east into central part country. Cement, steel, concrete production are key contributors associated impacts, e.g., steel each account for around 25% global warming potential materials. Building contribute considerably impact categories human toxicity, fossil depletion, warming, emphasizing that greenhouse gas emissions should not be sole focus research on impacts These findings quantitatively shed light urgent need reduce conserve energy manufacturing processes national scale.
