摘要: Abstract Irradiated suspensions of zinc oxide containing isopropyl alcohol form acetone and peroxide provided an adequate concentration oxygen is present. Initial quantum yields these products range from 0.25 to 1.50 depending on alcohol, specific catalyst surface, light intensity, temperature. The reaches a limiting value under all conditions, but the accumulates indefinitely. Detailed investigation shows that obtained are result reactions radicals in liquid phase as well direct surface reactions. former particularly important pure organic liquids. data best explained assumption energy radiation at 3650 A, approximately 80 kcal absorbed by oxide, gives rise active which initiates both Consideration various possible reactive forms might be produced conditions leads conclusion excited molecular anion most probable intermediate. This interpretation consistent with observations irradiated reported other investigators also previous studies carried out this laboratory. Lack sufficient reaction mixture, or instability gas phase, may account for earlier reports failure observe vapor conversion oxide. These systems not have practical formation peroxide, photocatalyzed very efficient process. An attractive feature fact it can low temperatures without intervention undesirable side
