Structural consequences of strong and weak interactions to binary benzoic acid/bipyridine supramolecular assemblies

摘要: The crystal chemistry of a family bimolecular complexes constructed from benzoic acid/bipyridine and acid/bipyridine-N-oxide components is described. building blocks used in this investigation follow retrosynthetic approach based on the complementary nature carboxyl···pyridine/pyridine-N-oxide supramolecular synthons. These strong interactions largely form predictable discrete heterotrimers; however, weaker, no less important, secondary (e.g., C−H···acceptor π···π stacking) control alignment each heterotrimer resulting variety packing motifs. observed interplay weak supports need to examine design molecular frameworks full range known contacts responsible for cohesion. By introducing structural with similar topological features, current study provides means exploring interdependency features competitive environments.
