Trust, Confidence, Procedural Fairness, Outcome Fairness, Moral Conviction, and the Acceptance of GM Field Experiments

摘要: In 2005, Swiss citizens endorsed a moratorium on gene technology, resulting in the prohibition of commercial cultivation genetically modified crops and growth animals until 2013. However, scientific research was not affected by this moratorium, 2008, GMO field experiments were conducted that allowed us to examine factors influence their acceptance public. study, trust confidence items analyzed using principal component analysis. The analysis revealed following three factors: "economy/health environment" (value similarity based trust), "trust honesty industry scientists" "competence" (confidence). results regression showed all significantly influenced GM experiments. Furthermore, risk communication scholars have suggested fairness also plays an important role environmental hazards. We, therefore, included measures for outcome procedural our model. impact may be moderated moral conviction. That is, significant people whom is issue, but issue. that, addition factors, conviction, fairness, predictors. suggest even stronger persons having high convictions compared with low convictions.
