摘要: At present, there may be over 210,000 people with Down syndrome (DS) the age of 55 in United States (US) who have significant needs for augmented services due to circumstances related ordinary and/or pathological aging. From 1979 through 2003, birth prevalence DS rose from 9.0 11.8 (31.1%) per 10,000 live births 10 representative US regions. This increase, largely women conceiving after 35, portends an ever-growing population subject pathogenic Whereas Trisomy 21 is one most widespread genetic causes intellectual disability (ID), it still least understood all ID syndromes. While longevity has improved appreciably as modest a period 30 years, age-specific risk mortality considerably increased compared both other or typically developing population. The penetrance phenotype widely distributed, even though consistent genotype assumed 95% cases. Some, but not body systems, exhibit signs premature accelerated and epigenetic inheritance. We now know that long-term outcome ominous once contemplated; number are living into their late 60s 70s few if any major Alzheimer's disease (AD), devastating robs person memory, abilities personality, particularly common elder adults DS, certainty originally thought, some 20% 30% might never show any, at mild AD. been called mature well-understood syndrome, need further research science funding. only beginning understand how epigenetics affects feasible future alter interventions. chapter divided two sections. first section will review typical atypical aging patterns somatic issues DS; second multifaceted relationship between AD DS.
