摘要: 1. To elucidate the neural mechanisms that mediate visual responses of optic tectum (OT) to medullary and spinal motor systems, we analyzed reticular neurons in paralyzed Japanese toads (Bufo japonicus). We examined their electrical stimulation OT, stained some intracellularly. Responses glossopharyngeal nerve (IX) were also analyzed. 2. Extracellular single unit recording revealed excitatory OT IX stimulation. Among 92 units encountered, 79 responded stimuli, 10 3 both. Some successive stimuli short intervals with relatively stable lags. 3. Intracellular staining experiments morphologies received inputs from OT. Thirteen identified after complete reconstruction somata dendrites. Neurons nucleus reticularis medius bilateral They had wide dendrites ventral, ventrolateral lateral funiculi, axons descending ipsilateral ventral funiculus as far caudally cervical cord. collaterals these projected directly hypoglossal nuclei. other nuclei (nuc. superior, pretrigeminal nucleus, nuc. inferior, tractus spinalis nervi trigemini) stimulation. 4. Activities converge onto neurons, which may control systems.
