摘要: PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to test the hypothesis that primary tumor vascularity in a murine model intraocular melanoma positively correlates with development and hematogenous spread metastasis. METHODS: Forty 12-week-old C57BL6 mice were inoculated either anterior chamber (AC) or posterior compartment (PC) 1 eye 5 x 10(5) cells/microL Queens tissue culture cells. was enucleated at 2 weeks; sacrificed 4 weeks postinoculation, necropsies performed. eyes examined for histologic ultrastructural features, including relationship cells vascular channels, pattern, mean density. RESULTS: Melanoma grew confined 12 20 AC 10 PC eyes. Histologic electron microscopic examination showed invasion into channels. Five tumors (42%) 8 (80%) metastasized. All tumors, but none distantly metastasized also ipsilateral cervical lymph nodes (P = .00535). There no statistically significant difference pattern between melanomas did not metastasize lungs group .24), although there .02). Tumors high-grade patterns more likely than low-grade group. density correlated presence number metastases both groups .0000 P < .001, respectively). versus .97). CONCLUSIONS: rate metastasis vascularity. metastasizes via through regional lymphatics.
