Large Asymmetric Hypertrophy of Rectus Abdominis Muscle in Professional Tennis Players

摘要: Purpose To determine the volume and degree of asymmetry musculus rectus abdominis (RA) in professional tennis players. Methods The RA was determined using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) 8 male players 6 non-active control subjects. Results Tennis had 58% greater than controls (P = 0.01), due to hypertrophy both dominant (34% volume, P 0.02) non-dominant (82% 0.01) sides, after accounting for age, length muscle body mass index (BMI) as covariates. In players, there a marked development RA, which 35% compared side (P<0.001). contrast, no side-to-side difference observed 0.75). The increased linearly from first lumbar disc pubic symphysis (r 0.97, P<0.001). Conclusions Professional is associated with abdominis, achieves that controls. Rectus more side, particularly distal regions. Our study supports concept humans can differentially recruit but also upper lower regions each muscle. It remains be if this disequilibrium raises risk injury.
