摘要: A comparison of two commercially available kits for rapid herpes simplex virus (HSV) detection directly in patient specimens was performed. The immunofluorescence assay (IFA) utilized monoclonal antibodies to HSV, and the DNA probe three HSV sequences cloned into pBR322. sample 243 received viral transport medium were inoculated MRC-5 tissue cultures. remainder specimen centrifuged, cellular pellet examined by IFA probes. One hundred sixty-two (66.7%) considered satisfactory testing, based on a criterion observing greater than or equal 2 intact cells per high-power field. Of 162 specimens, 35 (21.6%) yielded culture. By IFA, sensitivity detecting culture-positive 77.1%; specificity 100%, positive predictive value negative 93.3%. 71.4%; 90.6%; 67.6%; 92%. Forty-four (27.2%) exhibited nonspecific cytoplasmic staining with probe. assays can be completed 3 h, whereas average time culture positivity this series 2.2 days. Rapid diagnosis aid timely appropriate management. Images
