摘要: Background: There is limited information available concerning normal equine meniscal morphology, its degeneration and role in osteoarthritis (OA). Objectives: To characterise morphology lesions to explore the relationship between femorotibial OA. Study design: Ex vivo cadaveric study. Methods: Menisci were harvested from 7 joints (n = 14 menisci) 15 with OA 30 menisci). A macroscopic score (cartilage osteophytosis) was employed measure disease severity each compartment. The femoral tibial surfaces scored for fibrillation tears (1–4). Histological sections (regions: cranial caudal horn; body) also microscopic (0–3) inner border (0–3). Results: Partial present on both all 3 regions most frequently identified surface of horn medial meniscus body lateral meniscus. a significantly positive correlation global scores osteophyte (r 0.7, P 0.002) or cartilage 0.5, 0.03) within joint. greater (P 0.004) advanced compared control joints. Main limitations: menisci principally abattoir specimens without known clinical history because challenge obtaining large number diagnosis Conclusions: This study first describe lesions. Meniscal segments articular surfaces. correlated pathology remains be elucidated.
