摘要: IGF-I is expressed in virtually every tissue of the body, but with much higher expression liver than any other tissue. Studies using mice liver-specific knockout have demonstrated that liver-derived IGF-I, constituting a major part circulating an important endocrine factor involved variety physiological and pathological processes. Detailed studies comparing impact local bone-derived demonstrate both sources can stimulate longitudinal bone growth. We propose here to some extent overlapping growth-promoting effects might capacity replace each (= redundancy) maintenance normal Importantly, contrast regulation growth, locally derived cannot lack for large number parameters including GH secretion, cortical mass, kidney size, prostate peripheral vascular resistance, spatial memory, sodium retention, insulin sensitivity, sexually dimorphic functions, progression tumors. It clear role regulate secretion some, not all, phenotypes are indirect, mediated via elevated levels. All described multiple should be considered development possible novel treatment strategies aimed at increasing or reducing activity.
