摘要: This chapter is motivated by the observation that diverse soft tissues and cells exhibit remarkable adaptations in response to changes their chemomechanical environment, there a pressing need for mathematical models integrate information from rapidly expanding data bases on such adaptations. Although both biological motivation theoretical framework presented herein apply generally cells, ideas are illustrated focusing vasculature. Toward this end, note it has been said many different ways, but was particularly well (1992): ‘The blood vessel no longer considered be simply non-thrombogenic passive conduit flow. Rather, increasingly viewed as continually-adapting, physically chemically interdependent network of elements with common goal maintaining optimal function continually changing hemodynamic metabolic conditions’. I submit can help us understand better complex (and maladaptations) manifested vascular build intuition via simulations contrast effects competing hypotheses, they guide design interpretation revealing experiments, used improved clinical interventions medical devices.
