摘要: A study of the nesting Pacific ridley turtle Lepidochelys olivacea was undertaken in Costa Rica on Playa Nancite — one two beaches which authors had, previous year, discovered large aggregations this species. During 3 1/2-month period study, approximately 288,000 turtles nested 1300 m-long beach. About 99% these during periods mass-nesting (arribadas). The predictability arribadas investigated by observing and recording environmental parameters with they may be correlated. phenomenon, aspects behavior, adaptive advantages are discussed. nearly 2,000 were tagged, 102 subsequently recovered. Carapace lengths widths 251 tagged measured. emergence hatchlings recorded daily and, from data, incubation an indication egg hatchling survival obtained. activities various predators eggs, hatchlings, adults described.
