Population Trends of Nonmetropolitan Cities and Villages in Subregions of the United States

摘要: This is a comparison of the 1950-1970 trends in population size U.S. nonmetropolitan cities and villages among 26 homogeneous subregions. There are wide variations proportion incorporated places, and, though this generally increased over period, decentralizing tendencies also evident. was most often decline differential between growth rate places open country two decades. The positive association initial place growth, present half subregions 1950s indicative centralization, found only Corn Belt, Great Plains, Rocky Mountain 1960s. were regionally distinctive differences all variables considered; notably, percent growing ranged 50 percentage points extent subregional variation revealed by analysis indicates how physiography, climate, history, economy continue to be reflected settlement which obscured when larger regional groupings used.
