摘要: The roots of Withania somnifera (WS) are used extensively in Ayurveda, the classical Indian system medicine, and WS is categorized as a rasayana, which to promote physical mental health, provide defence against disease adverse environmental factors arrest aging process. has been stabilize mood patients with behavioural disturbances. present study investigated anxiolytic antidepressant actions bioactive glycowithanolides (WSG), isolated from roots, rats. WSG (20 50 mg/kg) was administered orally once daily for 5 days results were compared by those elicited benzodiazepine lorazepam (0.5 mg/kg, i.p.) studies, tricyclic anti-depressant, imipramine (10 i.p.), investigations. Both these standard drugs once, 30 min prior tests. induced an effect, comparable that produced lorazepam, elevated plus-maze, social interaction feeding latency unfamiliar environment, Further, both reduced rat brain levels tribulin, endocoid marker clinical anxiety, when increased following administration anxiogenic agent, pentylenetetrazole. also exhibited imipramine, forced swim-induced 'behavioural despair' 'learned helplessness' investigations support use stabilizer conditions anxiety depression Ayurveda.
