摘要: The area of wetlands in the U.S. is being estimated as part National Wetlands Inventory (NWI). Minimal information available to verify effectiveness NWI maps inventory or delineate jurisdictional wetlands. We evaluated use (1∶24,000 scale) and Virginia Blue Ridge. Each wetland identified Woolwine Meadows Dan was field-checked determine if areas met criteria a wetland. Of 171 palustrine identified, 91% criteria. Jurisdictional were delineated four 2.5-minute study areas. Two areas, located Ridge Highlands region, contain 91.8 109.3 hectares indicated 2.5 17.4 these two A similar but smaller discrepancy occurred mapped Escarpment region. concluded, because small scale that photo interpreters must work with number dense woodlands, may not adequately This conclusion based on detailed 22% (6888 ha) covered maps. Predominant plant species forested, scrub-shrub, emergent red maple (Acer rubrum), speckled alder (Alnus rugosa), yellow nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus), respectively, Wetland soils classified Typic Humaquents Humaqueptic Fluvaquents.
