摘要: Abstract Objective The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diabetic retinopathy (DR) tele-ophthalmology screening program in Manitoba determine prevalence and incidence DR, as well estimate program’s cost-effectiveness. Design Retrospective chart review. Participants A total 4676 patients with type 2 diabetes examined 9334 times from 2007 2013. Methods Focused ophthalmic histories were recorded examinations performed by trained nurses, including visual acuities, intraocular pressure, mydriatic 7 standard field stereoscopic fundus photography. Images evaluated retinal specialists according Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study criteria. DR then calculated during period. Cost-effectiveness estimated comparing cost running compared same volume in-office. Results average any each year 25.1%. cumulative across 6 years 17.1% (95% CI, 15.4%–18.7%). savings per examination $1007. Conclusions is highly prevalent among studied population. Tele-ophthalmology provides a cost-effective means monitoring identifying new or treatable disease.
