摘要: Follow-up examination of a 61-year-old woman who recently had papillary transitional cell carcinoma removed from her urinary bladder revealed 5-cm mass in the left adrenal gland. Clinicopathologic studies showed tumor to be heretofore undocumented virilizing oncocytic cortical adenoma. Ultrastructural disclosed that cytoplasm was filled with mitochondria, many which tubulovesicular cristae. The smooth endoplasmic reticulum well developed, as Golgi apparatus. Lysosomes various types, including lipofuscin pigment, were also evident. Immunohistochemical variable immunoreactivity for simple epithelial cytokeratins and synaptophysin (weak staining) minority cells. Two additional cases adrenocortical tumors, presumably adenomas, other institutions are discussed. small size weight tumor, low mitotic rate, absence necrosis vascular capsular invasion portend good prognosis. patient is currently free disease 1 year after extirpation tumor. Additional longer follow-up times needed predict better behavior this rare neoplasm.
