摘要: Cladocerans and copepods are globally important freshwater zooplankton groups, differing in reproductive modes dispersal abilities. We compared genetic variation of two common taxa these crustaceans, the Daphnia longispina species complex (known to harbour multiple cryptic lineages) Eucyclops serrulatus (morphologically ecologically variable morphospecies), lakes ten Eastern European mountain ranges. expected discover lineages both observe different geographical patterns diversity because differences life cycles. Within E .  , limited sampling through lowland habitats indeed showed presence eight highly divergent clades, probably species, but most were not found studied lakes. Such a pattern was congruent with D. longispina complex. Regional coexistence clades within respective complexes (two three ) observed only Tatra Mountains (on Polish−Slovak border). In all other ranges (in Balkans), single respectively, present, showing similar intraspecific no evidence for stronger limitation than . Our results indicate that substantial may be seemingly widespread copepod taxa. However, detection is general lakes, although crustacean zooplankton.
