摘要: Objective: To estimate the mortality of progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) and to assess quality death certification in patients with PSP who died England Wales. Methods: An analysis was conducted ICD-9 (International Classification Diseases, version 9) coded deaths obtained through Office National Statistics over an eight year period. Results: The crude annual rate 1.77 (95% confidence interval, 1.64 1.90) cases per million, using mid-1996 population for Annual increased time, possibly as a result incidence or awareness disorder. Forty nine certificates from deceased previously diagnosed clinically showed that commonest proximate cause pneumonia, occurring 45% (22/49). underlying cited pneumonia 14% (7/49). mentioned only 65% (32/49). Eight 49 (16%) underwent necropsy results were available five these cases. confirmed pathologically four; remaining case Parkinson's disease. Conclusions: Further research is needed establish reasons observed increase mortality. Determining coding system problematic but likely improve following introduction ICD-10 updated codes rules.
