摘要: DASH is a distributed operating system kernel. Message-passing (MP) used for local communication, and the MP uses virtual memory remapping instead of software copying moving large amounts data between address spaces. This design eliminates bottleneck in high-performance increases feasibility services such as file into user Other systems that have VM message transfer suffered from high per-operation overhead, limiting use technique. The intended to reduce this overhead. To evaluate our design, we measured performance kernel implementation on Sun 3/50 workstations. Our throughput measurements show messages can be moved spaces at rate more than 30 MB/sec, an order magnitude higher with copying. Furthermore, overhead low, so small not sacrificed. further understand system, then broke operation short code segments timed them microsecond precision. results relative costs movement other components operations, allow us several specific decisions.
