Developing an online book finding tool for a university library

摘要: Abstract 24/7 opening and widening participation have increased the need for tools to help library users find books subjects independently of staff. The paper describes a mobile-friendly web-based book finding tool produced using layered three-dimensional vector images library, MySQL database simple responsive PHP script. Tapping button in catalogue record or submitting web form enquiry compiles composite bitmapped image with custom URL showing highlighted shelving section(s) where desired subject should be shelved. Responsive design means that display clearly on smartphones, allowing carry visual guide them as they navigate library. A critical appraisal development, success limitations is included ideas further development discussed.
