摘要: Summary 1. Studies on biodiversity and ecosystem function require considering metrics for accurately describing the functional diversity of communities. The number taxa (richness) is commonly used to characterise biological diversity. disadvantage richness as a measure that all are taken into account an equal basis regardless their abundance, characteristics or in ecosystem. 2. To circumvent this problem, we applied recently described incorporates dissimilarities among taxa. Dissimilarities were defined from traits (e.g. life history, morphology, physiology behaviour) stream invertebrate resulting index was considered surrogate diversity. 3. As sampling effort known affect collected within reach, investigated how change affected by effort. We community data three large European rivers model accumulation curves assess samples required estimate (i.e. closeness maximal value) genera richness. further evaluated precision estimates similarity temporal spatial replicates) total diversity. 4. expected, strongly dependent effort, 10 replicate found underestimate actual Moreover, showed much variation with season location. In contrast, had greater accuracy less higher than both across occasions reaches. These results arguments towards conducting research design biomonitoring tool based traits.
