摘要: Abstract This research examined driver behavior towards four types of traffic light warning schemes currently in use across Metro Manila, Philippines. The first phase the study involved surveys with drivers to know what they say do upon reaching red, yellow, and green lights at intersections. These were used establish expected norms for behavior. showed that 99.5% claimed stop red lights, 76.3% slow down yellow 98.2% either speed up or maintain lights. results then compared second which observing actual behaviors through independently recorded video footages intersections different lights: blinking countdown timers, without schemes. Actual differed from behavior: instances crossing 7.0% higher than expected, slowing was least preferred preference a but speeding also exhibited. ANOVA analyses timers significantly decreased ‘startup’ times increased proportion cars sped Additionally, it determined create sense urgency last 5 seconds —as during — increasing tendency both lights’ phases. None schemes, however, affected Through third phase, where researchers observed case subjects who drove pre-designated route designed go is primarily function distance speed, while more certainty regarding time left cross. Hence, be most efficient, this reason, recommended, especially as seemed add little no additional risk Finally, seen factors like traffic, road situation, design, intensity, blocks, etc., play key role behavior, should thus further investigated.
