摘要: Signalized intersections are provided in traffic networks to improve the safety and efficiency of vehicular pedestrian movement. Various measures under education, enforcement, engineering headings being attempted operations at signalized intersections. Provision signal countdown timer, a timer showing remaining red green time phase, is one such measure commonly adopted India. However, studies on effects Indian conditions very scarce. Traffic heterogeneity lack lane discipline make transferability models developed other countries (with more organized traffic) infeasible. The present study an attempt analyze changes queue-discharge characteristics red-light violations (RLVs) due presence timer. A before-and-after analysis was carried out using data collected from selected intersection Chennai, for different vehicle types absence timers separately start end red/green. Results showed that information (end red) enhances efficiency, start-up lost reduced, there increase RLVs. Two-wheelers queue found be category mostly affected by this information. (start reduce incidence In information, it propensity RLV (proportion cycles having RLV) decreased 59 31% increased 12 75% with statistically significant drop headways (indicating efficiency). Also, intensity RLVs (mean per cycle) both 3.32 2.30 vehicles 8.52 5.60 vehicles, respectively. impacts varied based type major two-wheelers. show change trend, implying need update timings when installed. These results also bring light trade-off between choices drivers phase-change trade-offs should carefully considered as technology advances For example, advent intellidrive (vehicle-to-infrastructure communications), extent tailored achieve system optimality. can help decision making.
