摘要: Damage caused by badger setts is an important source of human–carnivore conflict in urban areas the UK, yet little known about spatial distribution of or their pattern occupation. We compared density, spatial distribution and size four two rural study the UK assessed applicability to systems distinguishing between ‘main’ ‘outlier’ setts. In addition, we used radio-telemetry investigate diurnal patterns sett use one area (Brighton). It was possible to distinguish between main outlier environments, local sett densities were comparable areas. However, badgers used substantially fewer than did a nearby population, they spent a smaller proportion days Social groups with larger ranges had more available them and, within groups, individuals ranges used more Outliers appeared serve multiple functions, including allowing efficient safe travel parts home range. conclude that sett densities can be high habitats, suggesting significant potential for sett-related problems arise. The fact that distinguished from outliers enables management actions tailored accordingly. particular, because seem represent particularly valuable resource urban badgers, alternatives closure problem need considered
