摘要: Introduction: Every year, a large number of patients with dysphagia are placed on feeding tubes to prevent aspiration pneumonia. This prospective study was planned compare the incidence pneumonia and death in who were either fed orally or through nasogastric tube. Methods: All aged 65 years older, at point discharge from geriatric medicine ward hospital, recruited over six-month period two-month follow-up. Patients diagnosed by speech therapist recommended have oral modified diet tube feeding. The among feeding, refused compared. Results: A total 122 completed study. rate were, respectively, 31.2 percent tube-fed 10.3 orally-fed (Fisher's exact test, p-value equals 0.007). Multivariate analysis showed that mode predicted outcome (p-value 0.03). 11.5 those 0.064). Nasogastric more cognitively- functionally-impaired compared Conclusion: In our study, did not better against mortality when poorer could be attributed their worse cognitive functional statuses. Larger studies needed refute confirm usefulness elderly dysphagia.
