Enabling Relationships with Nature in Cities

摘要: Limited exposure to direct nature experiences is a worrying sign of urbanization, particularly for children. Experiencing during childhood shapes aspects personal relationship with nature, crucial sustainable decision-making processes in adulthood. Scholars often stress the need ‘reconnect’ urban dwellers nature; however, few elaborate on how this can be achieved. Here, we argue that reconnection requires ecosystems, capacity enable environmental learning cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains, i.e., occurs head, heart hands individuals. Drawing psychology, ecology, institutional analysis planning, present theoretical framework Human–Nature Connection (HNC), discuss importance nurturing HNC children, role property-rights creating collective action arenas cities promotion resilience building. As values preconceptions underly behavior, there are limits achieving cities, as presumptive sentiments toward not always positive. We end by discussing new digital technologies relation HNC, conclude summarizing major points brought forward herein, offering policy recommendations strategy adopted throughout world.
