The impact of neuropathic pain on relationships

摘要: Aim. This paper is a report of study exploring the impact neuropathic pain on family, social and working relationships among patients at clinic serving large urban area. Background. Neuropathic particularly distressing type chronic which extremely difficult to manage successfully. It produces range unpleasant symptoms adversely affects patients' quality life, but little known about its personal impact. Method. A descriptive exploratory approach was used 10 participants participated in three focus groups 2005. Because low response rate 20% from initial sample, second sample 16 invited participate. However, only one person responded therefore it not possible convene an additional group. Findings. The bizarre nature underpinned much terms respondents' difficulties maintaining relationships. For closer relationships, key centred reduction and/or number more distant those with professionals, frustration invisibility their own failure communicate consequences were central. Conclusion. More extensive work needed improve our understanding how experienced, close kinds healthcare professionals might best support people persistent maintain effectively.
