摘要: The eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome (EMS) is an inflammatory disease that occurred in epidemic proportions the United States during 1989. Cases of EMS were also reported Europe and elsewhere. Clinically, resembles Spanish toxic oil syndrome. has been associated with ingestion manufactured L-tryptophan and, more specifically, lots tryptophan contained trace contaminant 1,1'-ethylidenebis(tryptophan) (EBT). Another ("peak UV-5") reported, but strength its association not demonstrated. Herein we report independently peak UV-5 3-(phenylamino)alanine (PAA). Patients ingested significantly greater amounts both PAA EBT than did control users. chemically similar to 3-phenylamino-1,2-propanediol, aniline derivative isolated from samples consumed by persons whom developed. discovery aniline-derived raises possibility may have a common etiologic trigger.
