摘要: Using molecular genetic information to guide population management can improve the sustainability of species in captivity. However, empirical genetics has not been commonly applied programs zoos. One limitation may be availability resources (e.g., markers, primers, etc.) for held To assess extent which zoos have studied using wild, we conducted a systematic literature review close 8,000 papers. We synthesized on and scale studies across amphibian, bird, mammal, reptile zoos, discussed their potential informing ex situ management. found that more than half (52%) already some markers described specific them, or congeneric species, could further developed aid zoo populations, accumulation these steady over past decades. Furthermore, proportion with is even higher (62%) are being managed through formal breeding program Our study provides encouraging results captive managers interested integrating into strategies.
