Exercise Time: Gender Differences in the Effects of Marriage, Parenthood, and Employment

摘要: Using data from a supplement to the 1995 National Health Interview Survey, this article examines relationship among three major work and family roles—marriage, parenthood, employment—and time spent on exercise American men women ages 18 64 (N = 13,496). As availability perspective suggests, roles curtail for exercise. Married adults spend less exercising than unmarried adults. Although number of children is not related exercising, having under age 5 negatively associated with exercising. Long hours employment are also although effect small. Across board, men, but negative association roles, especially role spouse, greater women.
