摘要: Tuberculosis is the second most common infectious cause of death worldwide in humans. Here we review major concepts etiology and pathology human disease nonhuman primate experimental models tuberculosis. Macaques (rhesus cynomolgus) infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis provide a model which all aspects are replicated, including primary (active) tuberculosis, latent infection, reactivation pulmonary extrapulmonary manifestations. Outcome can vary depending on dose, route, strain M. , species primate. Macaque have been used to test vaccines drugs against study immunologic basis SIV- co-infections serve as for HIV+ In this chapter, discuss humans, emphasizing current gaps knowledge, treatment, prevention. We focus primates research discussing status potential future that will improve diagnosis, prevention
