Intake of fried foods is associated with obesity in the cohort of Spanish adults from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition.

摘要: BACKGROUND Consumption of fried food has been suggested to promote obesity, but this association seldom studied. OBJECTIVE We aimed assess the energy intake from with general and central obesity in Spain, a Mediterranean country where frying oil is traditional cooking procedure. DESIGN This was cross-sectional study 33 542 Spanish persons aged 29-69 y who were participating European Prospective Investigation into Cancer Nutrition between 1992 1996. Dietary assessed by diet history questionnaire. Height, weight, waist circumference measured trained interviewers. Analyses performed logistic regression adjusted for total other confounders. RESULTS The prevalence [body mass index (in kg/m(2)) >or= 30] 27.6% men 27.7% women. Respective figures (waist 102 cm 88 women) 34.5% 42.6%. average proportion 15.6% 12.6% odds ratios highest versus lowest quintile 1.26 (95% CI: 1.09, 1.45; P trend < 0.001) 1.25 (1.11, 1.41; corresponding values 1.17 (1.02, 1.34; 0.003) 1.27 (1.13, 1.42; CONCLUSION Fried positively associated only among subjects food.
