摘要: Unlike most other sciences, psychology has no true core theory to guide a coherent research programme. It does have James J Gibson's ecological approach visual per- ception, however, which we suggest should serve as an example of the benefits good brings psychological research. Here focus on how eco- logical served discovery, shaping and constraining recent hypothesis about humans perform coordinated rhythmic movements (Bingham 2004a, b). Early experiments this task were framed in dynamic pattern approach. This phenomenological, behavioural framework (e.g. Jeka & Kelso 1989) classifies behaviour complex action systems terms key order parameters, de- scribes dynamical stability system it responds perturbations. Dynami- cal systems, while valuable toolkit, is not behaviour, style unable successfully predict data explicitly designed fit. More work by Bingham colleagues used formalise hypotheses derived from perception action, with particular emphasis perceptual information. The resulting model 2001, b; Snapp-Childs et al. 2011) had great success both phenomena was explain well wide range empirical results version specifically (specifically, learning novel coordi- nation). programme that produced stand value driven research, use illustrate contemporary importance for psychology.
